Shri Arun Kumar Jalan (2001 - 2003 )

During the tenureship of President Arun Kumar Jalan , the popularity of COMPASS had considerably enhanced among the channel partners of IT industry and many resellers wanted to join our association.

In the year 2001
-60 new members were inducted during this year.

-COMPASS has worked hard for the development of IT Industry in Eastern India. We had successfully persuaded Honorable Finance Minister, Shri Ashim Dasgupta to withdraw the TURNOVER TAX, was imposed in the begining of the year.

-Our first training center, COMPASS Ankur computer training center successfully trained more than 200 students.

On 25th Nov. 2001 - COMPASS AMORAGORI COMPUTER TRAIINING CENTER was inaugurated for economically backward youth at a village, Amoragori in Howrah district. The computer hardware was donated by COMPASS MEMBER. After the opening ceremony, traditional lunch was served by Amoragori Yuba Sangha.

15th Dec 2001 to 31st Dec 2001 - COMPASS Dealer's meet were held at Guwahati, Ranchi Jamshedpur, Siliguri & Bhuvaneshwar for the purpose of better interaction with the dealers and spreading the network of COMPASS.

In the year 2002
12th Jan 2002 - OEM Reseller meet was held at Hotel Oberoi Grand.

11th Jan - 14th Jan 2002 - COMPASS 2002 was held at Netaji Indoor Stadium. The exhibition opened new vistas for the IT industry in the region and helped identify new business opportunities, develop new business partners and clientele, and chalk out cost-effective solutions. It displayed the latst trends in IT industry and allowed companies an excellent opportunity to highlight brand awareness. Exhibition also highlighted this region's capabilities in the key segments of Information Technology and Telecommunications.

13th Jan 2002 - First time COMPASS Institutes Prestigious Annual IT Award organised at Oberoi Grand. Award for the Best Channel - Friendly Original Equipment Manufacturer goes to TVS Electronics Ltd. Award for the Best Channel-Friendly distributor was bagged by Priya Electronics Ltd. and Asim Basu of SES Technology was awarded the Best Channel-Friendly Executive.

NEWSLETTER - First News Letter of COMPASS was launched on 11th Jan 2002 by Information Techonology Minister Shri Manabendra Mukherjee. 2,500 copies were distributed. Newsletter will help the IT dealers in knowing about latest products, Govt. circulars & COMPASS policies etc.

- New section in the website has been added e.g. IT Bazaar / Shopping Mall section, Tender Information, latest new section and a hyperlinked running scroll bar.
- Membership Directory with latest updation has been added in website in zip format. so that anyone can download it with least effort.

COMPASS BRAND - COMPASS registered its Trademark "COMPASS". COMPASS achieved another milestone by registering its Brand name.

COMPASS JOINS HAND WITH CWBTA On 24th April 2002. Which will help to solve wider problems of trade bodies like Renewal of Trade Licence, Tenancy Act, Police harassment etc.

New Office Inaugaration - Mr. MN Ray, IAS Comissioner of Taxes, Govt. of West Bengal, inaugurated the new office premises on 15th May 2002. New space acquired at 37, Shakespeare Sarani. Kolkata 700017, in 2001. The space has been converted into a cosy office with a nice front office, work desks, President's and office bearer's chamber.

Office Infrastructure - It was decided to offer COMPASS office for rent for road show / seminar purpose. 4hrs - Rs.2,000/- and 8hrs - Rs.3,000/-. 20% discount will be offered for members.

CELLUAR PHONE SCHEME - Mr. Pasan Jajodia suggested to start CELLUAR PHONE GROUP SCHEME for COMPASS MEMBER. This brilliant idea was immediately converted into reality by taking COMMAND & AIRTEL into confidence. This scheme has helped COMPASS member to interact with each other at a reduced cost.

GROWTH IN COMPASS MEMBERSHIP - More than 60 members joined COMPASS last year.

21st - 22nd Sept 2002 - Used & Discounted PC SHOW 2002 was organised under the chairmanship of Mr. Pawan Jajodia. Show is useful for dealers to clear their old stock.

MEMBERSHIP CERTIFICATE - COMPASS has distributed Membership certificates to its LIFE & ANNUAL Members.

In the year 2003
Membership: Our membership strength as on 1.9.2003 is 246. We have inducted totally 18 new members this year - 11 life member and 7 annual member. We have discontinued 34 members due to various reasons like winding up of business or non-payment of annual dues.

COMPASS Exhibition 2003: The exhibition had a wide coverage in major news paper. A total no. of 119 stalls and 2 pavilions exhibited variety of products. Compass organised Software world at Sangam Hall at Park Hotel during COMPASS 2003 was sponsored by Microsoft. During the exhibition at Park Hotel a seminar on LINUX was also organized to create awareness among the compass members and the visitors.
M/S Intel and M/S Tech Pecific were awarded the best OEM and best Distributor award on Awards Nite function organized at Hotel Hindustan International.
We also organized Road shows for COMPASS 2003 Exhibition in city Ranchi, Bhubnaswar, Siliguri and Guwahati.

IT Directory of Eastern India 2003 were publised was sponsored by VIA Technologies. Directory is also available in CD form.

Used and discounted Computer Exhibition were organised at Prudential Hall at Park Street on 8th & 9th August,2003 under the leadership of Mr. Pawan Jajodia.

Seminar : A seminar were organised on Value Added Tax at Kalamandir. Shri B.K.Nandy and Shri Rizvi Khan of West Bengal Sales Tax Department gave a presentation and answered all the queries of members.

On 15th June, 2003 COMPASS organised a Personality Development Workshop with TDA and GNP.

COMPASS Ankur and Amoragori Training Centers: 4 new computer donated by Seagate to COMPASS Ankur. Scanner, Web camera and Inkjet printer donated to Ankur Training Center by Caltron, Supreme Technologies, Saboo computer and our members. Hardware Training Classes were also started at this center. More the 100 under-privileged youth have been trained at these center.

COMPASS Members Directory: The popularity of directory can be gauged from the no. of advertisements received for publication in the directory. Directory have publised with current year updation.
